On May 18th I visited Parr's Ridge Elementary School in Mt. Airy Maryland which has grades Pre-K through 2nd grade. The large group poetry performance was a lot of fun, and the students did a great job finding the rhythms of poems and acting them out during the small group activities. We ended the large group performance all singing "There's a Racoon in the Trash Can." Here are the directions for making your own raccoon in the trash can puppets.

I had a great time visiting Mt. Airy Elementary in Mt. Airy, Maryland on May 17th. It was the first time I have every given a whole school poetry performance outside. I hope to get some recordings of that performance in my next podcast which is due out in early June. |
